Overview

The ancient merchant town of Mandawa in Rajasthan is known for its beautifully adorned havelis or forts. The frescoes and paintings that adorn the walls and arches of these massive havelis are remindful of the changing ethos of this small town over time. While the earlier paintings depicted mythology, local legends, paintings of animals and plants, the later ones are influenced by the British way of life. With time these old havelis have transformed into major tourist attractions. For a more wholesome experience, try spending a day or two at one of the havelis that have now been converted into hotels and resorts. The Mandawa Fort, situated in the middle of the town is a captivating structure with its frescoes depicting the Hindu God, Lord Krishna with his cows. Some of the other major attractions near Mandawa are Nawalgarh, Mukundgarh, Dundlod and Jhunjhunu. By air: Jaipur , Sanganeer (JAI) airport is the nearest airport at a distance of 180 kms. Jaipur is well connected to other major cities. Charter airport is located in Jhunjhunu at a distance of 27 kms.
