Mumbai Travel Guide

Mumbai – in Maharashtra, dons many hats. Being the financial epicenter of India, it attracts thousands of people every year. The Hindi film industry, popularly known as Bollywood, is also based in Mumbai. The city derives its name from the local goddess ‘Mumbadevi’. This giant city is a juxtaposition of the old and the new, colonial and modernist, be it its culture, architecture or daily humdrum. The vast sea that brims the city has been a witness to its changing landscape. Sightseeing in Mumbai is incomplete without a visit to the famous Gateway of India. Tourists usually catch a ferry from here to visit the Elephanta Caves. The Chowpatty beach and the famous Marine Drive are other hotspots. While at the beach do enjoy local snacks, Bombay pao and Bhelpuri with cutting chai. Other must visit tourist attractions include Victoria Terminus, presently called the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, the Prince of Wales Museum, National Gallery of Modern Art, Nehru Planetarium to name a few. When shopping on your mind then Colaba Causeway, Chor Bazaar and Fashion Street are must shop places during your India day and group tours to Mumbai.

How to visit:

By road: Mumbai is perfectly connected to the rest of India. Interstate roadways buses and private operators run luxury coach buses as well as rickety buses. It has a vast fleet of black-and-yellow taxis too. The fine roads of this city connect you to all big and small towns and tourist centres .

By rail: Railways are said to be the lifeline of Mumbai, so the city is connected massively via railways. The two railway stations in Mumbai are Chattrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) previously known Victoria Terminus, and Bombay Central Station. Other local railway stations are Dadar, Church gate and Kurla.

By air: Mumbai's international terminal is Chatrapati Sivaji International Airport.(BOM) Located 30 km from centre of the city, Nariman Point and 4 km from the domestic terminal of Santa Cruz. Most of the international flights fly from here and connect it with various national and international destinations.
