Well connected from Bangalore, Hampi and its forlorn ruins make the visit worthwhile. Heaps of giant boulders perched over miles of undulating terrain lie scattered over the landscape that leave every traveler spellbound. This World Heritage Site shows how years of volcanic activity and erosion resulted in such a fascinating landscape. The place in itself is a vast open museum of history, architecture & religion. Sprawling over 25 Sq Km and more, Hampi ruins have giant temples, aquatic structures, palaces, fortifications, market streets and uncountable ancient monuments. The ruins of Hampi are in two sections, the Sacred Centre and the Royal Centre. Places popular amongst tourists are the Vittala Temple, Virupaksha Temple, Royal Enclosure, Hemakuta Hill Temples, Kadalekalu Ganesha, Lakshmi Narasimha, Hazara Rama Temple, Zenana Enclosure, Lotus Mahal, Elephant Stables and the Riverside Ruins with shrines, carved artifacts and ruins of ancient structures. Visit the place during the famous Hampi Festival of dance, music and cultural extravaganza scheduled for 3 days in the 1st week of November.
