Aurangabad Travel Guide


Aurangabad in Maharashtra came to limelight as the capital city of Mughal emperor, Aurangzeb. Though the glitters of the city did not last long, but one can sight some fascinating monuments, including the Bibi-qa-Maqbara, which draw a steady flow of tourists. Apart from the historic relics of the Mughal era, the place also lived through the upheaval of Buddhism and the Aurangabad Caves with glimpse of early Buddhist architecture stand as evidence. The place is a good choice for weekend excursion and a perfect base to explore the Ajanta and Ellora Caves. This World Heritage Site attracts many from far & wide. Apart from those relics, Aurangabad in present day is famous for its hand woven Paithani Silk and Himroo saris. The Paithani Weaving Centre is a must visit place for travelers interested in knowing the art and looking forward for some good deals on a India day tour to the city.

How to visit:

By road: Aurangabad is the nearest Air point for Ajanta. It can be reached from New Delhi and Mumbai (Bombay), international airport.

By rail: Jalgaon junction is the railway station to visit Ajanta caves. It is centre point of all major railway stations of India and has Bhusaval (Just 28kms from Jalgaon) as second largest depot of railways in entire Asia.

By air: Aurangabad is well connected by good motorable road with Mumbai. Several luxury and State run bus services ply between Mumbai and Aurangabad. Aurangabad lies at a distance of 214 Kms from Pune, 218 Kms from Nasik, 402 Kms from Indore (402 km) and 403 Kms from Mumbai. The distance of other cities from Aurangabad are Daulatabad (13Kms), Shirdi (130 Kms), Jalgaon (194 Kms), Mandu (335 Kms) and Sholapur (324Kms).
