Munnar, famous for its incredible natural beauty is an amazing hill station in South India. The term Munnar is derived from Tamil word Munnu meaning three and Aar meaning ‘river’. Thus three mountain streams namely Mudrapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala joins together here. It is well recognized for lush green tea gardens, thick forests, beautiful lakes and friendly people. Located at an altitude of about 1600 meters above sea level, it was once the summer resort of British Colonial Government. Eravikulam (Rajamalai) National Park :
45 minutes drive from Munnar, this National Park is home to Nilgiri Tahr. Spreads over an area of 97 square kms, this park shelters Atlas Moth, Tigers, Elephants, Langurs, Gaurs and Leopards. The Rajamalai hills turns blue every twelve years by Neelakurinji Flowers.
Anamudi Peak inside Eravikulam National Park :
The Anamudi peak which is considered to be the highest peak in Southern India towers over the Eravikulam Sanctuary in majestic pride. The slopes of the hills is rich in all kinds of flora and fauna. One can enjoy trekking at an altitude of about 2700 meters and experience the tranquil mountain atmosphere. If you are a nature lover then this is the best place for you.
Kundala Lake
This beautiful lake surrounded by lush jungles is located at a distance of about 20 Kilometers from Munnar. Explore this awesome place by hiring a pedal boat which will give you a lifetime experience. Kundala artificial dam is also a popular spot one can visit.

Mattupetti Dam
10 kilometers from Munnar is a popular picnic spot where one can spend the whole day with pleasure by
indulging in activities like boating and horse riding.
One can hire a speed boat which is fantastic idea.
Echo Point
Echo point as the word itself suggests that every loud call made by you from this point is returned manifold by the echo from the surrounding hills. It is believed that if you can hear your echo calling back at you thrice, then it is a symbol of good luck. It is a popular place in Munnar and young tourists frequently visit this place to listen to their echoes.

By Air
Kochi (Cochin) is the nearest airport located at a distance of just 130 kms from Munnar.
It has an International airport and is well connected by major cities like Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad by means of regular flights operating between them.
By Rail
The nearest railhead to Munnar is also Cochin and it is well connected to other major cities by means of
regular and express trains.
By Road
This place is well connected to other major cities by well developed network of road transport. Ooty 241 kms, Thekkady (Periyar tiger reserve) 112 kms, Kodaikanal 180 kms, Cochin 130 kms. Mysore 400 kms.
Best time to visit Munnar
Though Munnar is a round the year destination, but if you are not willing to travel during the rainy season then the best time to travel Munnar is between September to May.
