Katra Town is the major holy city of the Indian state Jammu & Kashmir is popularly known as Vaishno devi shrine. Katra is located at the distance of 50 kms from Jammu placed 2,473 ft higher than the sea level. Katra is also called as Vaishno devi because it provides the foundation encampment to visit the renowned shrine of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi, which is only at the distance of 13 kms and which is covered by foot by traveling above a long and well maintained foot path. Katra is visited by 5 million devotees every year. The local markets of Katra are full with the shops of Prasad. dry fruits and all other items which are presented to Maa Vaishno Devi. As Jammu and Kashmir is famous for it Handicraft products of the woolen stuffs so you find many shops having nice woolen products.

MATA VAISHNO DEVI SHRINE - From Katra it at the distance of 13 kms by foot and is measured to be one of the most holiest pilgrimages In the country. MATA VAISHNO DEVI is considered in the whole world as the mother who accomplish anything her children desire for. The home of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi is in a Holy Cave which is placed in the folds of the three pointed mountain called as Trikuta. The wholly cave is visited by more then 5 million tourists every year.
Famous excursions from KATRA
Aghar Jitto - It is house of famous temple of Baba Jitto who was a supporter of Mata Vaishno Devi and a innovative who escort a battle against the feudal order. It is 5 km far from Katra. According to mythology, a bathe in the sacred spring water which is flowing in frontage of the temple, performs phenomenon to pre-natal women for secure deliverance of children.
Shiv Khori - From Katra this cave is around 75 kms far. Shiv Khori is the divine cavern which is approximately a kilometer lengthy and have a 4 ft high naturally created ‘Shivling’. It is considered second only to the shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi in religious importance. There are stalactites & stalagmites dripping milky limestone water from the ceiling. Every year on the day of Shivratri foremost carnival is there at Shiv Khori. on Shivratri day every year.
Baba Dhansar - From Katra Baba Dhansar is located at the distance of 10 kms far. Baba Dhansar is a gorgeous and breezy picnic place where a vast spring streaming out of the ridge in a bulky orchard of trees and figure a numeral of diminutive cascades prior to curving into the sacred Ban Ganga. There is also a small naturally formed ‘Shivling’ which is subsequently to the spring on which small drop of water fall naturally through out the year.

By Road : From Jammu to Katra buses of Jammu & Kashmir and Punjab Transport are frequently carrying the crowd in every 10 minutes.
