Bandhavgarh is one of the wildlife sanctuaries spread at vindhya hills in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It is a tiny national park but with the highest density of tiger population in India. This is also called White Tiger Territory because white tiger is the main attraction here. Apart from white tiger the other species found in abundance are the gaur or Indian Bison, Nilgai, the barking deer and the Sambar.
Rocky hills, grazing areas and Sal forests forms the terrain. Out of these hills Bandhavgarh is the finest one, and Bandhavgarh fort stands on its highest point. Before becoming a National Park, the forest range around the region had been maintained as a game preserve or Shikargarh for Maharaja of Rewas. The area was declared as a National Park in the year 1968. Since 1968 several steps have been taken to maintain it as an undestroyed natural habitat.
Major Wildlife attractions of Bandhavgarh
Bandhavgarh has a rich variety of flora and fauna that attracts nature lovers from different parts of the world every year. There are nearly 250 species of birds and 22 species of mammals found in this park. Apart from tigers there are even other animals which can be found in their natural habitat like rhesus macaque, chinkara, jungle cats, black faced langurs, black buck and the chital.
Besides the animals this park also attracts a variety of bird species comprising of resident birds and migratory birds. Migratory birds includes wildfowl and steppe eagle. Other species of birds found in this park are Green Barbets, Purple Sunbirds, Peacock, Paradise fly catchers, Jungle Fowl, Golden and Black headed Orioles, Yellow Ioras, Red-vented Bulbuls, Blue Jays and Mynahs.

Stretching over 363 sq. miles, this park has been famous for amazing variety of animals in different habitats.
How to Reach Bandhavgarh National Park
Jabalpur at 165 kms and Khajuraho at 210 kms are the nearest airports.
The nearest railhead to visit Bandhavgarh is Umaria situated at a distance of 30 kms. The other convenient railheads are Satna (117 kms) and Jabalpur (170 kms).
This place is well connected by network of roads. Regular bus services are available from Khajuraho and Umaria.

November to June is considered as the best time to visit this park although the park remains open from October till June. Like other parks and sanctuaries this park remain
closed for public from July to October because of Monsoon.
